baby rozzo

my journey to mommyhood and beyond

oh christmas tree

we put up our christmas tree the first weekend of november this year.  some might say that’s a bit too early but since we didn’t put one up last year (we were too busy awaiting your arrival!) i wanted to make up for it this year.  we put it up in the front room because you don’t get into that room very often.  you don’t quite understand “no” yet so we thought it was best to just keep you away from it for now. we do go in there now and then to look at the lights and i’ve let you touch it…under my close supervision of course!  maybe next year we’ll be able to put it up in the main room.

rare snuggle

one day, for some reason, you stopped liking to snuggle. it’s very rare for you to want to snuggle with me or your dad. imagine my delight when you snuggled up next to me and then proceeded to fall asleep.  i could have stayed that way for hours.

santa!

i start my new job on monday and decided to take a few days off beforehand so we could do some christmas shopping and also take you to see santa.  daddy was very particular about where we went to see santa.  someday, when you’re older and know the secret behind santa, i’ll tell you exactly what that means. we decided to go see him at the henry ford museum.  i knew that you probably weren’t going to like it but this is your first christmas, we had to take you to see him! we were lucky and there was no line so your dad held you as i set up my camera.  when i was ready, he handed you over to santa.  you took one look at him and started crying. but you know what, i think it’s almost a better photo than if you had smiled nicely. 🙂

unexpected

we’ve been trying to teach you how to wave for the past few weeks…but with no such luck.  the ladies at school attempt to make you wave every time we drop you off.  still no luck.

so this morning, as you were buckled into your carseat ready to go to school, i gave you my usual kiss and then gave you a wave bye-bye.  imagine my surprise when you picked up your little hand and waved right back! funny that when things happen when you least expect them, it somehow makes them just that much sweeter.

happy birthday daddy!

it’s daddy’s birthday today and you got to help him open his present. much as we expected, the paper was the best part!  i think my days of saving boxes and bags are over…christmas sure will be fun!

first thanksgiving

every year we alternate where we spend thanksgiving.  this year is technically a rosowski year so we hosted at our house.  luckily grandpa and grandma karsten also joined us so i had a lot of help in the kitchen!  we hosted thanksgiving two years ago but having a little one (you!) to also look after made cooking a bit more difficult!

we gave you your own version of thanksgiving dinner – turkey, green beans and some sweet potatoes – and you loved it all!  well, we already knew you liked green beans and sweet potatoes but i was pleasantly surprised that you would eat small chunks of turkey.  it’s still been a struggle to get you to eat meat unless it is pureed!

not only was it exciting to spend our first thanksgiving as a family of three, you also took your first steps! we knew you were close because you’ve attempted multiple times but would fall on your bottom when you tried to move your feet. your daddy was playing with you in the living room and mentioned something about how close you were to taking a step so i walked over saying something like “i better not miss it” and as soon as i got you in my view you did it!  what perfect timing, i would have been so sad to miss it.

i’d expect by your first birthday you’ll be walking regularly.  uh oh.

eleven months!

one more month and you’re a whole year old! wow! you’re starting to drink less milk and eat more food, you eat three meals a day with a snack in the afternoon as well. we call you garbage disposal because there are times where i literally can’t stop feeding you!  put it in front of you and you’ll eat it (as long as it’s something you like!). no changes in your sleep habits, i keep hoping someday you’ll make it past 6:30.  it’s ok during the week but on a saturday? no thanks.  i prefer 9 am. you’ve been kinda of  terror lately at bed time, for some reason you hate getting your pjs on and also having your diaper changed in general. sometimes it’s a two man job taking both me and your daddy to get it done.

you’re constantly standing up now, and you really don’t fall anymore.  you’re cruising along the furniture quite well and we keep watching for your first steps.  as for talking, you still favor “da”, it seems to be your go to expression for multiple things.  but you know exactly what you’re saying when daddy walks in the room, “da da” is no longer a coincidence.  sadly i’ll admit it is definitely your first word. once in a while you’ll also throw in “ba” or even “na”. we’re still working on “ma”.  funny enough you’re the most vocal when you’re eating.  tons of “mmmmmm” and other sounds i have no idea how to spell. there is no such thing as a quiet dinner around here! you’re still wearing 12 month clothes but they’re getting a little snug. i would bet we’ll be in 18 months by your birthday.

we’ve also started to notice a bit of a temper on you.  when we tell you no or take something away from you that you’re not supposed to play with, you’ll cry and throw yourself backwards onto the ground.  everything i’ve read says to set precedence now so that you know tantrums won’t be tolerated.  so we’re trying.  daddy says you get the temper from me…i ashamed to admit he might be right. 🙂

usually i try to take a nice picture of you on or around the 27th (your day of the month birthday) but with the craziness of thanksgiving coming up and the fact that it gets dark before we even get home, i didn’t get the chance to.  however, i thought this picture would work just as well because it sums you up perfectly at this stage: hands in your mouth and stains on your shirt.  i’ve been told you are actually a pretty neat eater, which i guess we don’t have food all over our walls but it never fails that you get some of whatever you’re eating all over your clothes.  shout is mommie’s new best friend. so while it’s not picture perfect, it’s perfect just the same.

crayons

we bought you some crayons the other day to see what you’d do with them.  you could hold the crayon in your hand but not a lot of actual drawing happened, more just banging the crayon on the piece of paper.  we’ll keep working on it. 🙂

toy bin

we try to keep all of your toys contained in the corner of the living room so it doesn’t look like a toy tornado hit our house every day.  so you spend a lot of time in that corner burrowing into the toy bin. it always makes me giggle to watch you dig through it so i had to snap a few pics.

curtains and windows

you’ve recently discovered the slider doors. you love to play with the curtains (and put them in your mouth) and bang on the windows of the doors. cheap entertainment!
